This weekend’s races – March 9-10, 2019

This weekend we are watching two NASCAR races from the ISM Raceway near Phoenix, AZ. The ISM Raceway has been in operation since 1964, originally as a venue for Indy car racing. The facility underwent a major renovation last year finishing in November. The start/finish line has been moved to a place between the former Turn 1 and the dogleg making the first turn past the dogleg the new Turn One. The track has four numbered turns plus the dogleg which is now between Turn Four and Turn One. The track is rated as a 1.022-mi oval. It is located about an hour’s drive west of the Phoenix Airport.

In addition, the first IndyCar race of the 2019 season will be run at St. Petersburg, Florida on the Sunday. As the time of writing this preview (Tuesday, five days before the race is scheduled to run) Canadians have heard no word of any Canadian broadcast source which will be making the broadcast of this race available to them. The track is a temporary street circuit in the city of St. Petersburg using one runway of the Albert Whitted Airport. It is measured as 1.8 mi (2.9 km) long.
