Owen Sound, ON (Howard Cohen): September is a special month in Ontario as the Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance hosts more than one hundred special interest, classic, museum quality cars. Now in its eighth year, this world-class Concours takes place at the Cobble Beach Golf Course, ten minutes north of Owen Sound on the west side of Georgian Bay, giving the event a spectacular scenic backdrop. This year’s main event will take place on Sunday, September 15.

The classic cars go back to the early 1900s and up to today’s exotics. There are marques you may never have heard of or seen as well as many you have. OSCA, Stutz, Marmon, Duesenberg, Cord, Ferrari, Corvette, Dodge, Continental and dozens more. These cars are in ‘concours condition’ which means that they are near perfect. .Many of these cars have been completely restored.

However, these cars are not just amazing to see. They also drive. On the Saturday morning several dozen of these cars will follow the event organizer on a 100-kilometer tour around the Georgian Bay region, taking in historic sites, towns and cities, stopping for photographs and then back to Cobble Beach.

While the tour is in progress, there is a ‘Cars & Coffee at Cobble Beach’ event taking place at the golf course for another hundred plus cars. Dozens of ‘daily drivers’, such as Mustang, Camaro, Studebaker, Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Mercedes, Triumph, muscle cars, hot rods and more of all vintages add to the flavor of the ‘Cars & Coffee’.

The main event, the Concours d’Elegance, takes place on Sunday on the golf greens. The cars are set in position, signs tell what the car is, the owners polish and shine and clean their babies until they are perfect as the judges inspect every car to see how perfect it is. The gates for the public open and thousands of admirers get to see some cars they may never see again. There are many cars that are ‘one of a kind’ or very limited production. There are sports cars, muscle cars, Canadian-only cars, race cars, brass-era antiques, the 1920s, 1930s, European, Japanese, North American, all together for one purpose, to share their love of cars, old and not so old. Some of the special classes include Micro Cars, Vintage Japanese Motorcycles: Baby Birds; Classic Car Club of America Full Classics 1915 – 1948 and European Classics 1915 – 1948.
