PREVIEW: Weekend of July 27-28, 2019 – F1 at Hockenheim, IndyCar at Mid-Ohio, NASCAR at Pocono and Iowa

Saturday, July 27

1. NASCAR Gander Outdoors Trucks Gander RV 150, Pocono Raceway
• TV: 1:00P on FSR
• 2.5 mi; 60 laps = 150 mi; Stages: 15/15/30 laps
• Kyle Busch won this race in 2018 (with his MENCS win on the same weekend making it a double win for him here). Erik Jones was second while Dalton Sargeant was third. Stewart Friesen was fourth.
• the most recent NGOTS race was run at Kentucky Speedway two weeks ago. Tyler Ankrum was the surprise winner. Stewart Friesen was second an Harrison Burton was fourth
• As of the Kentucky race Grant Enfinger was leading the points standings with 542 points ahead of Stewart Friesen (508 points) and Brett Moffitt (501 points). Looking at the all-important wins column, Moffitt has two race wins while Austin Hill, Johnny Sauter Tyler Ankrum and Ross Chastain have one eligible win each. Chastain actually has won two NGOTS races but the first win came before he switched his eligibility to be a contender for the
NGOTS title. Kyle Busch has won five truck races but he is not eligible to compete for the series title.

2. NASCAR Xfinity U.S. Cellular 250, Iowa Speedway
• TV: TSN4 at 5:00P
• 7/8 mi (0.875 mi), 250 laps = 218.75 mi; Stages: 60/60/130 laps
• This week’s NXS race here is a double-header paired with a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East/West race
• Christopher Bell won here last year. Brad Keselowski was second ,and Ryan Preece was third.
• The previous NXS race was run at New Hampshire a week ago. Christopher Bell was the dominant race winner. Cole Custer, who started from the pole finished second and Justin Allgaier was third
• Tyler Reddick heads the points standings with 812 points to Christopher Bell’s 756 and Cole Custer’s 736. Looking at race wins both Bell and Custer have won five times each so far while Tyler Reddick has three wins. Most of the other wins have gone to Kyle Busch with three wins but he is not eligible to compete for this championship.

Sunday, July 28

3. FIA Formula 1 Mercedes-Benz German Grand Prix, Hockenheim
• TV: TSN1/4/5 at 9:05A
• 4.574 km (2.842 mi); 67 laps = 306.458 km
• The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas scored a one-two win on their home soil in 2018. Kimi Räikkönen was third, 2.2 seconds behind Bottas.
• The most recent F1 race was run at Silverstone on July 14. Lewis Hamilton won, his sixth win in the British GP, more than any other driver. Bottas was second while the young French driver Charles Leclerc was third in a Ferrari.
• After the first ten Grands Prix have been run, Hamilton is running away in the points race with 223 points to Bottas’ 184 and Verstappen’s 136. Sebastian Vettel is fourth with 123 points.

 4. NASCAR MENCS, Gander RV 400, Pocono Raceway

• TV: TSN4/5 at 3:00P

• 2.5 mi; 160 laps = 400 mi; Stages: 50/50/60 laps
• Kyle Busch won here in overtime last year. Daniel Suarez was second and Alex Bowman third. Kevin Harvick was fourth.
• Last week in Loudon Kevin Harvick was the race winner with Denny Hamlin a close second and Erik Jones third.
• Joey Logano hold the points lead with 783 points over Kyle Busch with 780 and Kevin Harvick with 691. In terms of race wins both Kyle Busch and his new teammate Martin Truex each have four wins. Brad Keselowski has three wins so far.

5. NTT IndyCar Series Honda Indy at Mid-Ohio, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
• NBC (+ SN World) at 4:00P
• 2.258 mi; 90 laps = 203.22 mi
• Alexander Rossi won here last year; Robert Wickens was second and Will Power was third.
• The previous IndyCar race this year was run at Iowa last week. Josef Newgarden won this race over Scott Dixon and James Hinchcliffe.
• Newgarden leads in the points standings with 487 points to Rossi’s 458 points and Pagenaud’s 429 points. Hinchcliffe is in ninth place with 279 points.
