PREVIEW: OCTOBER 5-6, 2019: WEC at Fuji; NASCAR at Dover

Saturday, October 5

1. NASCAR Xfinity Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200, Dover Intl. Speedway
• TV: TSN3 at 3:00P
• 1 mile concrete oval; 200 laps = 200 mi; Stages: 45/45/110 laps
• Christopher Bell won here at Dover a year ago. Cole Custer was second and Justin Allgaier was third. In May, the results were almost the same as last year: Bell, Allgaier, Tyler Reddick and Custer.
• The previous NXS race was run at Charlotte last week. A.J. Allmendinger, who currently has no regular ride, won the race. Playoff contenders Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric finished in second and third place. The other playoff favourites, Justin Allgaier and Cole Custer, finished fourth and ninth respectively.

2. World Endurance Championship, 6 Hours of Fuji, Fuji International Speedway, Japan
• TV: Discovery-Velocity (or Motor Trend online) at 10:00P
• 4.563 km road course; 6-hour timed race
• Last year, the WEC ran here at Fuji on October 14. The two Toyota hybrid LMP1 cars finished one-two with the No. 7 of Conway/Kobayashi/Lopez taking the honours. The third place car, the No. 1 Rebellion petrol LMP1 of Jani/Lotterer/Senna finished four laps behind the Toyotas. The GTLM class was won by the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR driven by Christensen/Estre
• This is the second round of the 2019-2020 series which will culminate in the Le Mans 24-Hour next June. The season began with the 4-hour race at Silverstone on September 1. As is usual the two Toyota hybrid LMP1 cars finished one-two, a lap ahead of the next closest finisher, The petrol-engined No. 3 Rebellion LMP1 entry. The winning Toyota was the No. 7 car driven by Conway/Kobayashi/Lopez. In the GTLM class, the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR of Bruni/Lietz was the class winner, finishing 13th overall.

Sunday, October 6

3. NASCAR MENCS Drydene 400, Dover Intl. Speedway
• TV: TSN3 at 2:30P
• 1 mile concrete oval; 400 laps = 400 mi; Stages: 120/120/160 laps
• Chase Elliott won at Dover last year. Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano finished in second and third place. In the May race here at Dover this year, Martin Truex was the race winner while Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson finished in second and third place.
• Last week at the Charlotte ‘ROVAL’ Chase Elliott survived an early crash to win the race. Alex Bowman finished in second place and Kevin Harvick was third.
