PREVIEW: October 26-27, 2019: Mexican Grand Prix + NASCAR at Martinsville

Saturday, October 26

1. NASCAR Gander Outdoors Trucks NASCAR Hall of Fame 200, Martinsville
• TV: FSR at 1:30P

• Johnny Sauter was the winner of the NGOTS race here a year ago. Brett Moffitt finished second with part-time driver Myatt Snider third.
• The previous NGOTS race was run at Talladega two weeks ago. Spencer Boyd (a part-time truck series driver who is not one of the playoff-eligible drivers) won the race over Todd Gilliland and Riley Herbst (two more non-playoff-eligible drivers). Among the playoff drivers, Moffitt was fourth, Stewart Friesen fifth and Austin Hill sixth.
• The Martinsville NGOTS race is the second in the final three-race elimination round. After the next race (Phoenix), the top four playoff drivers will transfer to the Homestead finale and the best finisher there among those four will be declared the champion.

2. FIA Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, Mexico City
• TV: TSN5 at 2:05P
• 4.304 km road course (includes stadium section); 71 laps/305.354 km
• Max Verstappen won last year’s race here by a margin of 17 seconds over the two Ferrari drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen. The Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished fourth and fifth.
• Two weeks ago in Japan, Bottas emerged as the race winner over Vettel and Hamilton. Verstappen retired early from the race after sustaining damage in a collision with Charles Leclerc at the start. After he received two penalties as a result of that incident, Leclerc was classified in seventh place.
• The 2019 season’s points battle had been more-or-less settled by now. Mercedes Benz already has enough points to be assured of the manufacturer’s title. As for the driver’s title, only Hamilton and Bottas have a mathematical chance of winning – but, of course, Hamilton, with his 64 point lead over Bottas, looks like being the champion once again this year.
