2020 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Cancelled

Monterey, CA, Apr 22/20: The Pebble Beach Company has announced their decision to cancel this year’s edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance which was scheduled to be held on August 16. The plans that had been made for this year, including the classes that had been set and the entries to those classes which had been accepted will be put forward to the 2021 date (August 15, 2021).

The Pebble Beach Company is responsible for various events at the Pebble Beach golf course through the year including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament. More importantly for car enthusiasts, they are the overall hosts for the Pebble Beach Automotive Week and a number of the events that happen during that week such as the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance. However, there are a other events which, while they occur during ‘Automotive Week’ are run by separate organizations. These include other cars shows like the Quail and most of the auto auctions – and, of course, the Monterey Rolex Motorsports Reunion which is held at the nearby Laguna Seca circuit. It remains to be seen what decisions these other organizers will make given that the centerpiece event of the week has been cancelled.

Like the Concours, the organizers of the Motorsports Reunion had sent out confirmation acceptance letters to potential race entrants last week.

It is hard to imagine that, in the face of the decision to cancel the Concours, any of the other events that week – including the Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca – will go forward this year.

With this cancellation of an important event scheduled for mid-August one has to wonder when motorsports events as we know them will get back underway this year. It does suggest that the optimistic predictions by various race organizations that they will be able to run most, if not all, of their scheduled events in the second half of the usual racing season will prove to be unfeasible.
