NASCAR: Revised August race schedule; No Trucks or Pinty’s at CTMP this Labour Day

Oakville, ON, July 9 (GRW): NASCAR has issued its revised calendar for August with a number of significant changes.

Perhaps most notable from a Canadian standpoint is the footnote that tells us that the Truck Series (NGROTS) race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has been cancelled (my term not theirs). Although the announcement made no specific mention of the Pinty’s race scheduled for Labour Day weekend, obviously it will not happen either (this date has been removed for the Pinty’s Series calendar elsewhere on the NASCAR.com website). This means that, as of now, the whole Pinty’s season has been reduced to just three events – and I wonder if the Ohsweken date in August will actually happen.

The other major change is the creation of a four-race weekend on the Daytona International Speedway’s road course on August 14-16. The card will include ARCA Menards on Friday, the Xfinity Series on Saturday, and the Truck Series plus the Cup Series on the Sunday. This is the first time that the NASCAR stock cars will race on Daytona’s road course layout.

Have you noticed that NASCAR has been trending towards more road course races, including in the Cup Series? This new event at Daytona in August extends that trend to road courses for the stock cars. One has to wonder if this trend will be maintained in the post-pandemic era?

I will revise the master race calendar that appears on this website as soon as I can and post it. Please note that it is always a good idea to double check the published dates for any race event you plan to attend. Nowadays, it is easy to get up-to-date information at the last minute by going to the series’ website or to the race track’s website.
