2. NTT INDYCAR Series, Bommarito Automotive Group Race 1, World Wide Technology Raceway
• TV: SN360 at 3:00P
• NOTE: The venue was formerly called ‘Gateway’ and it is located across the Mississippi from St. Louis
• asphalt oval speedway; 1.25 mi; 200 laps = 250 mi
• An IndyCar race was run here on August 24 last year. Takuma Sato was the race winner ahead of Ed Carpenter. Tony Kanaan was third.
• The most recent IndyCar race this year was last Sunday’s rescheduled running of the Indianapolis 500. Sato won this race, holding off Scott Dixon. Graham Rahal was third, Santino Ferrucci was fourth and Josef Newgarden was fifth. Spencer Pigot crashed heavily with only a handful laps remaining. Given the time it was going to take to clean up the accident and the pressures of the television network’s schedule, there was no possibility of going to a NASCAR-Style red-flag to allow the race to be restarted after the cleanup was completed and allow Dixon to continue to challenge Sato for the win. The race finished under yellow with Sato in the lead.

• This race has been rescheduled from the July 4th weekend. Last year, this July Cup race had a strange ending when everyone pitted under yellow but Justin Haley. Then the red flag came out ending the race and leaving Haley in front as the race winner – a very unexpected result. William Byron was credited with second ahead of Jimmie Johnson in third.
• The most recent Cup race this year was the Drydene 311 (#2) at Dover last week. Kevin Harvick won this race (splitting the wins for the two races last weekend with Denny Hamlin). Martin Truex was second, Johnson third, Byron fourth and Alex Bowman fifth.
