PREVIEW: F1 in Russia; NASCAR at Las Vegas; IMSA at Mid-Ohio

1. NASCAR (NGROTS) Trucks World of Westgate 200, Las Vegas Motor Speedway
• TV: Fox Sports Racing at 9:00P
• The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc. (Bruton Smith). It is an asphalt paved 1.5 mi oval.
• Race distance is 134 laps = 201 mi; Stages: 30/30/74 laps
• This is the second race of the first three-race round in the seven-race playoff series.
• There were two Truck Series races run here last year. Kyle Busch won the race in March. The September race winner was Austin Hill, over Ross Chastain, and Christian Eckes.
• Kyle Busch won the February Truck Series race here in 2020.
• Sam Mayer won last week’s Truck Series race, his first win in seven starts in the Truck Series. Brett Moffitt finished in second place ahead of the rookie Tanner Gray.

2. NASCAR Xfinity Las Vegas 300, Las Vegas Motor Speedway
• TV: TSN3 at 7:30P
• The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc. (Bruton Smith). It is an asphalt paved 1.5 mi oval.
• Race distance is 200 laps = 300 mi; Stages: 45/45/110 laps
• This Las Vegas race will mark the start of the Xfinity playoffs. It is the first race in the three-race Round of 12. In all, there will be seven playoff races with the finale at Phoenix.
• There were two Xfinity Series races at Las Vegas last year. Kyle Busch won the March race. The September race was won by Tyler Reddick; Christopher Bell was second and Brandon Jones was third.
• In the February Xfinity race here this year Chase Briscoe was the winner.
• Last week at Bristol, Briscoe was the winner again, after Austin Cindric lost the lead to Briscoe and he dropped to third behind Ross Chastain.

3. Formula 1 VTB Russian Grand Prix, Sochi, Russia
• TV: TSN5 at 7:05A
• The Sochi Autodrom is a 5.848 km street-based road course on the site of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
• Race distance is 53 laps = 309.745 km (192.5 mi)
• The 2019 edition of the Russian Grand Prix was run on last September 29th; it was won by Lewis Hamilton over his teammate Valtteri Bottas. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) was third with Max Verstappen fourth.
• The most recent F1 Grand Prix this year was the Tuscan GP at Mugello two weeks ago. Again the Mercedes duo of Hamilton-Bottas finished one-two. Alex Albon (Red Bull) was third; Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) was fourth and Sergio Perez (Racing Point) was fifth.

4. IMSA WeatherTech Series Acura Sports Car Challenge, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
• TV: Discovery Velocity at 2:00P
• The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is owned by Green Savoree Racing Promotions. It is a 2.258-mile, 13-turn natural terrain road course (four left and nine right turns running clockwise)
• The WeatherTech race is 160 min duration; each of the Michelin Pilot Challenge races will run for two hours duration.
• The WeatherTech series raced here on May 5th last year. The No. 6 Acura driven by Cameron/Montoya won the race with the two Mazda DPi cars finishing two-three behind them.
• The most recent race was the one held at Road Atlanta on September 5th. This time the No. 7 Acura (driven by Castroneves/Ricky Taylor) won. The No. 55 Mazda DPi was second.
• This Mid-Ohio race was originally scheduled for May 3rd but postponed due to the pandemic.

5. NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400, Las Vegas Motor Speedway
• TV: TSN1 at 7:00P
• The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc. (Bruton Smith). I t is an asphalt paved 1.5 mi oval.
• Race distance is 267 laps = 400.5 mi; Stages: 80/80/107 laps
• This Las Vegas race will be the first race in the second three-race round of the playoffs (the Round of 12) in the ten race playoff series.
• There were two NASCAR Cup races here at Las Vegas in 2019. Joey Logano won the March race and Martin Truex won in September – with Kevin Harvick second and Brad Keselowski third.
• Joey Logano won the February race here at Las Vegas this year. Matt Dibenedetto was second and Ricky Stenhouse was third.
• Last week’s NASCAR Cup race at Bristol was won by Kevin Harvick, his ninth win this year. Kyle Busch, who has yet to win a NASCAR Cup race this year showed better form than usual with a second-place finish over Eric Jones.
