Davidson: Another oval track win at Las Vegas’s Xfinity for road-course specialist Allmendinger

Las Vegas, NV, Mar 6/21 (by John Davidson): AJ Allmendinger added his sixth career NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, leading 44 laps out of the 200. Daniel Hemric headed 74 laps but could not maintain that pace following a late race caution, finishing the race just 0.978 second behind 'Dinger's Chevy. Second place finisher Daniel Hemric was a strong contender for the win but the car was better in longer runs than a last ten-laps caution allowed.

"This was probably, there's no probably about it, this was the best Poppy Bank Toyota Supra we've had all year," Hemric said."We've had good finishes, but by far the most speed we've had. We come here to win these races for sure. Disappointed to have one get away like that and get beat, but AJ (Allmendinger) did an incredible job. [I] felt like our cars were fairly equal. I would be a little better than him on one part of the run and he would be better than me at one part of the run. I just took off on the splitter there on the last couple short runs. I'll tell you, we came a long way. Dave (Rogers, crew chief) wasn't very thrilled and I wasn't very thrilled last week after we left Homestead, but we did the right things this week. Close and if we keep doing that, we'll win plenty this year."

Points leader and defending champion Austin Cindric finished fourth after going a lap down with an early flat tire but he was saved by a caution that flew before he went a second lap down as he slowly came around to the pits – and then he got back on the lead lap with a free pass and he raced his way to the top five by the final laps of the race.

Then had contact with Harrison Burton, sending Burton into a spin. "He just threw a block on the front stretch and at that part of the racetrack the car's really unloaded. I was just driving hard," Cindric explained. "At the end of the day, it was probably pretty avoidable on both parties, but obviously he was able to keep it off the wall and get a top 10. Either way, that wasn't really the catalyst for my day. We cut a tire down when we were one of the best cars and it took us the entire race to get back to fourth, so we needed 100 more miles and maybe we would have had a shot with our Ford Mustang. All good on my end, just bad luck."
