NASCAR Pinty’s Series at Sunset: Substitute driver Lessard sweeps the double-header

Innisfil, ON, Aug 1/21 (GRW): The truncated 2021 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season began here with a pair of 125-lap races on the 1/3-mile oval. Quebec driver Raphael Lessard, who is taking a break from racing in the NASCAR Truck Series, subbing for the injured Donald Theetge, was dominant, winning both races.

In the first race, the Frontline Workers 125, Pete Shepard III led most of the laps, but in the final stages of the race, Lessard grabbed the lead and he held on to the finish. In the second race, the General Tire 125, he started up front and he dominated the race, leading most of the 125 laps.

This was a one-weekend only deal for Lessard and Theetge is planning to be back in action for the next race. However, given his strong performance and the result that he is now leading the championship points standings, perhaps Lessard will manage to put together a more complete season of races in this series this year.

This weekend’s double header was the beginning of an 11-race season which will visit race tracks in Ontario and Quebec. These races will all be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on TSN and on RDS2.

In addition, I found that I could watch the race live via the ‘Live’ streaming service on TSN.ca. In addition, I was able to watch the live scoring via the ‘Race Center’ on nascar.ca, using as second screen. (Unfortunately, the live scoring locked up when it was time for the second race, but I assume that they will have this glitch sorted out in time for the next Pinty’s Series race at Trois Rivières in two week’s time, on August 15.
