Day 12 & 13: Saturday & Sunday, August 17-18th
Owen Sound

As with all big trips, there's a rest day planned. Bernice is super-enthusiastic about having a swimming pool, nice weather and new friends (Bernice: 'Dad, what is it again, my phrase?' Dad: 'I'm Bernice, I'm from Belgium and I don't speak English). And dad enjoys a local beer without having to drive.

At night, it's really cold (5° C), which is unusual for this time of the year, and people are offering us blankets.

Sunday is Esmée's birthday! She's 12 now. Dad and party-daughter go to visit Owen Sound and enjoy a procession of old tall ships while Bernice prefers to stay on the campground to play with her new friends. At night we have fire roasted marshmallows for birthday dinner.

Day 14 & 15: Monday & Tuesday, August 19-20th
Owen Sound to Killbear Provincial Park (258 km)

It's going to be a day on the road, but I promise the birthday girl that her birthday wish will become true. That is, we will see the CN Tower and visit Chinatown in Toronto (she loves Chinese food, and in school she learned a little about Toronto).

Via the Highway 400, we pass The Blue Mountains and pass the over-touristic Wasaga Beach en route to survive a couple of days in Killbear Provincial Park.

There's 'bear-alert' on the campground, and one of our neighbours comes to tell us that a bear was spotted just next to our place. We keep to all the strict rules (getting food away, no smelling rests of food,..) but are not afraid of spotting a bear. Quite the opposite, however, our wildlife luck wasn't on our side. We've spotted snakes, deer, beavers but no bears nor goose in the wild. Oh my!

We finally make it to the water on Monday for a day of canoing! It's great weather, the current is not too strong and the wind is also in our favour for dad and daughters to do their exercises in and on the water.
