PREVIEW: F1 at the Algarve; IndyCar at St. Pete’s and NASCAR at Martinsville

1. NASCAR Xfinity Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 300, Texas Motor Speedway
• TV: TSN3 at 4:30P-7:30
• Texas Motor Speedway is a 1.5-mile asphalt oval; bankings: turns 1&2, 20°, turns 3&4, 24°
• Race distance is 200 laps = 300 mi; Stages: 45/45/110 laps
• They will not be admitting any spectators for the Saturday event. No practice or qualifying sessions.
• Two Xfinity Series races were run here last year. The first was held in March and it was won by Cup driver Kyle Busch over Tyler Reddick and Chase Briscoe. The second Xfinity Series race was a playoff race held in November and it was won by Christopher Bell with Ross Chastain second and Austin Cindric third.
• An Xfinity Series race was held here on July 18. Austin Cindric was the race winner over Chase Briscoe and Justin Allgaier.
• The most recent Xfinity Series race was at Kansas last week. Chase Briscoe scored a dominant win over Daniel Hemric and Ryan Sieg.
• This is the second race in the three-race playoff ‘Round of 8'. The top four playoff drivers after this round is completed at Martinsville will advance to the finale at Phoenix.

Sunday, October 25

2. Formula 1 Heineken Grande Prémio De Portugal (aka Portuguese GP), Algarve Autodrome, Portimao, Portugal
• TV: TSN1/4/5 at 9:05A-11:00
• The Algarve Autodrome has never been used for an F1 Grand Prix before. It is a 4.653 km (2.888 mi) road course with 17 turns.
• Race distance is 66 laps = 306.826 km
• Up to 27,500 spectators will be admitted. There will be full practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday.
• This is the first time an F1 Grand Prix has been held at this circuit.
• The most recent GP was the Eifel GP at the Nürburgring two weeks ago. Once again Lewis Hamilton won the race; it was his 91st F1 win and this equaled Michael Schumacher’s record. Max Verstappen was second and Daniel Ricciardo was third.

 3. NASCAR Truck Series (NGROTS) SpeedyCash.com 400, Texas Motor Speedway

• TV: Fox Sports Racing at 12:00n-2:00P

• Texas Motor Speedway is a 1.5-mile asphalt oval; bankings: turns 1&2, 20°, turns 3&4, 24°
• Race distance is 147 laps = 220.5 mi; Stages: 35/35/77 laps
• They are selling spectator tickets for this event. No practice or qualifying sessions.
• There were two Truck Series races held here in 2019. The first was contested in March and it was won by Johnny Sauter with Brett Moffitt second and Harrison Burton third. The second NGROTS race was run on June 7 as a support race to the IndyCar race held on the following day. The June race was won by Greg Biffle who had made a one-race return from retirement; Matt Crafton was second and Tyler Ankrum was third.
• This year so far there has been one Truck Series race here, held on July 18; it was won by Kyle Busch over Christian Eckes and Matt Crafton.
• The most recent Truck Series race was held last Saturday at the Kansas Speedway. Brett Moffitt was the race winner over Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill.
• This is the second race in the three-race ‘Round of 8'. The top four playoff drivers after the Martinsville race next week will advance to the finale at Phoenix.

4. NASCAR Cup Series Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500, Texas Motor Speedway
• TV: TSN1/4 at 3:30P-7:30
• Texas Motor Speedway is a 1.5-mile asphalt oval; bankings: turns 1&2, 20°, turns 3&4, 24°
• Race distance is 334 laps = 501 mi; Stages: 105/105/124 laps
• They are selling spectator tickets for this event. No practice or qualifying sessions.
• Last year there were two NASCAR Cup Series races held at TMS. The first was on March 31 and it was won by Denny Hamlin over Clint Bowyer and Daniel Suarez. The second Cup race was on November 3; the race winner was Kevin Harvick with Aric Almirola second and Suarez third.
• There was a Cup Series race at Texas earlier this year, on July 19th. Austin Dillon won this race over Tyler Reddick and Joey Logano.
• The most recent NASCAR Cup Series race this year was at Kansas Speedway last Sunday. Joey Logano won it with Kevin Harvick second and Alex Bowman third.
• This is the second race in the three-race ‘Round of 8'. The top four playoff drivers after the race at Martinsville next week will advance to the finale at Phoenix.

 5. NTT INDYCAR Series, Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg, FL

• TV: NBC (+SN, SN360) at 2:30P
• The St. Petersburg street course is 1.8 mi long
• Race distance is 100 laps = 180 mi
• This race was originally scheduled to be the season-opener back in March but it was postponed and it now stands as the season finale (and championship-deciding race).
• Last year, Josef Newgarden won this race over Scott Dixon and Will Power.
• The previous race weekend was the Harvest GP doubleheader on the IMS road course on October 2-3. Newgarden won on Friday and Power won on Saturday.
