FACT FILE: F1 Portugal, WEC Spa, IndyCar Texas and NASCAR Kansas

1. FIA Portugese Grand Prix
• Formal race name is ‘Heineken Grande Prémio De Portugal”
• Race Date: Sunday, May 2, 2021
• TV: TSN4/5 at 9:55A to 12:00n

VENUE:
• Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portugal artificial road course
• 4.653 km (2.891 mi) 16-turn circuit is located a few kilometres north of the Atlantic coast of the Portugese Algarve region. The closest major city is Portimão, on the coast. There are two DRS zones.

THE EVENT:
• Race Distance is 66 laps = 306.826 km (190.65 mi)
• There will be two practice sessions on Friday; the second one being televised in Canada (TSN2 at 9:45A). On Saturday there will be one practtice session followed by the three-part qualifying session. Qualifying will be televised in Canada (TSN4/5 at 9:55A).

PREVIOUS RESULTS:
• Last year an F1 Grand Prix was held here on October 25 as a replacement event given that a number or GPs originally scheduled were cancelled in 2020. Podium Results: 1. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), 2. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), 3. Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
• The most recent GP this year was the Emilia Romangna Grand Prix at Imola on April 18. This is not a regular stop on the Grand Prix circuit. A fill-in GP was held here last year and this year’s GP here was another fill-in event. Podium Results: 1. Max Verstappen (Red Bull), 2. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), 3. Lando Norris (McLaren-Mercedes).

2. FIA World Endurance Championship ‘6 Hours Of Spa-Francorchamps’
• Race Date: Saturday, May 1, 2021
• TV: Discovery Velocity at 7:30A to 1:30P (EDT)

VENUE:
• Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Francorchamps, Belgium
• This circuit was originally laid out on the local roads; over the years it has existed in a number of different configurations. The most recent major revision came in 1981 when the circuit length was reduced to 7 km from the previous 14 km, eliminating half of the previous circuit.
• The current circuit is 7.004 (4.352 mi) long with 19 turns. No part of the current circuit is used as public roads. Some by-pass roads were built to make this possible.

THE EVENT:
• This will be the opening round of the 2021 WEC championship season
• The race distance is six hours duration, the checkered flag is dropped as soon as the lead car reaches the Start/Finish line after the six hours time has elapsed.
• There will be practice sessions on Thursday and Friday and the qualifying will be held on Friday afternoon in two sessions (one for the GT cars and one for the Hypercar and the LMP2 classes.)

PREVIOUS RESULTS:
• The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps was held last year on August 14. Podium Results (LMP1): 1. Conway/Kobayashi/Lopéz (Toyota), 2. Buemi/Nakajima/Hartley (Toyota), 3. Senna/Menezes/Nato (Rebellion).
• The most recent race was the 2020 finale held at Bahrain on Nov 14 last year. Podium Results: 1. Conway/Kobayashi/Lopéz (No. 7 Toyota), 2. Buemi/Nakajima/Hartley (No. 8 Toyota), 3. Aubry/Stevens/Tung (No. 37 ORECA LMP2).

3. INDYCAR Doubleheader at Texas: ‘Genesys 300' and ‘XPEL 375'
• Race Dates: 1. Genesys 300 on May 1, 2021; 2. XPEL 375 on May 2, 2021

VENUE:
• Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth, TX
• 1.5 mi banked oval; Turns 1 & 2 at 20°, Turns 3 & 4 at 24°

THE EVENTS:
• Genesys 300: Race Distance is 212 laps = 300 miles
• XPEL 375: Race Distance is 248 laps = 375 miles
• There will be a single practice session and a single qualifying session for both races on Saturday, May 1st. (See timetable).

PREVIOUS RESULTS:
• The Genesys 300 was held here last year on June 6 as the delayed season-opener. Podium Results: 1. Scott Dixon (Ganassi), 2. Simon Pagenaud (Penske), 3. Josef Newgarden (Penske).

• Kansas Speedway, Kansas city, KS
• 1.5 mile asphalt oval; turns have progressive banking at 17-20°

THE EVENT:
• Race Distance is 267 laps = 400 miles; Stages: 80/80/107 = 267 laps
• No practice or qualifying sessions for Cup Series or Truck Series. Starting lineup is based on NASCAR’s Performance Metrics Qualifying formula.

PREVIOUS RESULTS:
• There were two Cup Series races held at the Kansas Speedway last year.

THE EVENT:
• Race Distance is 134 laps = 200 miles; Stages: 30/30/74 = 134 laps

• Last year there were three Truck Series races at Kansas.
