The fourth ‘major’ race in Canada called off – Truck Series event at CTMP moved to Darlington

Bowmanville, ON, May 25 (GRW): In a joint announcement, NASCAR and the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park today announced the Truck Series race planned for Sunday, September 5th at CTMP will not be held at that venue. Rather the event will be run as part of the traditional Labour Day weekend at Darlington Raceway on the Sunday (September 5) alongside the ‘Southern 500' NASCAR Cup race later that same day.

This cancellation of the CTMP event means that none of the four Canadian ‘majors’ – the Canadian Grand Prix, the IMSA WeatherTech Race at CTMP, the Honda Indy at Toronto and the Camping World Truck Series race at CTMP – will be held again this year as we continue into the second year of the pandemic.

CTMP, in their statement, said, “The hope for Ontario’s racing facilities is to open later this summer with limited spectators in “Step 2 and 3” of Ontario’s re-opening plan. In accordance with this plan CTMP intends for a Labour Day Weekend event to go ahead without the NASCAR Trucks. The absence of the headlining series will of course be reflected in the eventual weekend ticket price of this proposed event, please stay tuned for details.

“As well, CTMP will be providing full refunds for tickets and/or camping you had purchased for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 250 event that were transferred to 2021; please correspond with us via email – This email address is being protected from spambots.
