Xfinity at Daytona – Halley wins; a Kaulig team one-two-four photo finish

Daytona Beach, FL, Aug 28/21 (by John Davison): Justin Haley headed a Kaulig Racing one-two-four finish in a three-wide chase to the checkers to win the rain-interrupted WaWa 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona. Fellow Kaulig racers AJ Allmendinger and Jeb Burton took second and fourth, split by JR Motorsports' Justin Allgaier in third. A crash from an off-center shove by Myatt Snider relegated Austin Cindric to 39th place at the finish and cost him the regular season points lead to AJ Allmendinger. 'Dinger's lead is 17 points, with Allgaier another 108 behind Cindric in third place.

"I was trying to formulate a plan there," said Haley after the race, adding "I think we got the teammate thing down."

The race was originally scheduled for Friday evening but it was red-flagged after 21 of the scheduled 100 laps due to rain and it was completed the next day as an afternoon race ahead of the scheduled Cup Series night race here.

Halley led only twice during the whole race – leading only the last lap in the land-rush three-abreast scramble to the checker after the race went green with just 14 laps remaining.

A new superspeedway power reduction for the Xfinity Series led to close racing and the three-wide finish with no "big one" crash, though three multi-car incidents took out potential front-runners, including ruling series champion Austin Cindric, who was victim of a misdirected push early in the race that led to the caution flying when rain on Friday night ended the racing until Saturday afternoon.

"I got spun through the tri-oval," said CIndric. "Obviously, everyone is trying to push lanes there, but it's just really unfortunate. That's two weeks in a row for our Ford Mustangs to get torn up -- two cars that I thought were race-winning cars, so a lot of points lost today and a lot of work to do for the next three weeks. We'll move on. That's racing and sometimes it takes one and that's it."

The Sports Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200 is next Saturday, September 4th at the historic Darlington Raceway.
