Audi RS 7 Sportback

Although its German rivals such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz might be more associated with sleek, high-performance vehicles, Audi continues to burnish some pretty impressive go-fast credentials of its own.

The latest example of this ethic, rolled out at Detroit in impressive fashion is the RS 7 Sportback. Classified as a five-door sedan by Audi (the rear hatch counts as a door), the RS 7 Sportback is a sedan that cuts a coupe-like profile. Like most Audis these days, it’s a handsome car from all angles, but this car isn’t just about looking good – it’s about going fast, too.

Putting the power to the ground for the RS 7 Sportback is a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 that puts out an impressive 560 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. of torque. Will that much thrust on tap, the RS 7 Sportback covers 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, and it possesses an equally impressive top speed of 250 km/h. The optional dynamic package pushes that figure up by 30 to 280 km/h.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this performance beast is its fuel consumption number, which Audi has established at an impressive 9.8 L/100 km.

Audi SQ5

Designed specifically for markets outside of Europe (U.S., Canada and China among them), the Audi SQ5 is the first model not powered by a diesel engine.

Instead, the heart of the new SQ5 is a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 that produces 354 horsepower and 346 lb-ft. of torque. Like the RS 7 Sportback, the SQ5 also boasts an impressive 0-100 km/h time (5.3 seconds) and a very quick top speed (250 km/h). Average fuel economy is also expected to be quite good given the vehicle’s performance capabilities – 9.8 L/100 km.
